Wearing Your Custom Orthotics
The following are instructions to follow in order to get maximum benefit from your specialized orthotics.
- Wear your orthotics for 2 hours the first day. From the second day on exceed wear time 1 hour each day until you reach 8 hours. After 8 hours has been reached wear orthotics as much as possible. (Note: The wear time is standing or sitting)
- Always place the orthotics into your shoes as far toward the heels as possible. Make sure the correct orthotic is in the left and right shoe.
- Orthotics change the way you walk and the way your muscles work. You may now be using muscles you have not used in a long time. Foot and leg muscle fatigue, as well as discomfort, can occur during the initial break-in period.
- If your orthotics squeak while walking, place a bit of baby powder into your shoes.
- Orthotics work best when worn with socks or stockings.
- If your orthotics are uncomfortable after the break-in period, or if they pinch or cause blisters, please stop wearing them and call us for an adjustment.
- Save your casts for future pairs of orthotics.
