Your Visit

Ford's Foot Performance operates on appointment schedules and request that you call to schedule an appointment with one of our pedorthists. Your appointment length will usually take between 30-60 minutes. It is our belief that quality care takes time, therefore, we will never compromise care by rushing our patients.

Evaluation

We begin by discussing a brief history of your foot condition. A full biomechanical evaluation will be provided on your initial visit. Biomechanics is the study of human motion and how each movement affects the entire body. The feet are our foundation and what keep us moving forward. If the feet are not balanced correctly while in motion, all the joints up the line may be affected. Ankle, knee, hip, and back pain can all be attributed to foot imbalances. Watching a patient walk reveals deficiencies that may have gone undetected for months or even years.

foot impressions

An impression of your foot is taken, either weight bearing or non-weight bearing, to assist in the creation of the custom orthotics. Your foot type and diagnosis will help determine which is the most appropriate way of capturing an impression of your feet.

Shoe Wear Analysis

We ask that you bring in a few pairs of shoes that you wear on a regular basis. The wear patterns on your shoes will show us where you put pressure when you walk. Shoe wear concerns will be addressed. Orthotics are only as good as the shoes in which they sit. Shoes hold the orthotics in the proper place on the foot; therefore, the shoes can either maximize or limit the value of your device. Shoe recommendations will be given on your initial visit. Your return visit will be scheduled approximately 3 - 4 days after your impressions are taken. You will need to bring any shoes that were discussed during your initial visit. At this time your custom orthotics will be fitted to your shoes and any adjustments will be made to ensure a proper fit. Wear time instructions will be given so that you are able to adjust to your orthotics with as little discomfort as possible.

adjustments

Since your orthotics are custom made, sometimes minor adjustments to them are required. There is no additional charge to any adjustments made within the first 8 weeks of receiving your device. Adjustments required after 8 weeks may be subject to an additional charge based on the pedorthist's discretion and/or lab fees incurred. Please do not wait for any adjustment evaluation you may need. An office visit/adjustment usually is a $35 charge.

RECHECK VISIT

A recheck visit is scheduled between 4 - 8 weeks after you have been equipped with your orthotics. We will recheck your condition using wear patterns on the orthotics, verbal feedback from you, and any changes in gait. Any adjustments that are needed can be made at this time. There is no additional charge for this visit.

Refurbishment

Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure that your orthotics remain in good working condition. We recommend a refurbish after one year of wear. A refurbish consists of replacing the top cover, adding additional arch support, and providing cushion to the toe-box. A refurbish costs $60 per pair.
